How to rank higher in Google Maps
The map pack is the top three local results, and it gets most of the clicks. Here's what gets you in and what keeps you out.
The map pack, those top three businesses shown on a little map, gets the lion's share of local clicks. Most people pick from those three and never scroll. Getting in is the highest-value thing you can do in local search, and it comes down to a handful of signals you can genuinely influence.
What decides the map pack
Google blends relevance, distance, and prominence. You can't change your distance, but a complete profile improves relevance, and reviews plus consistent information drive prominence. Those are the levers that actually move you up.
The biggest lever: reviews
Volume, recency, and rating all feed the map pack. A steady flow of recent reviews signals an active, trusted business. A business with forty fresh reviews usually outranks one with five old ones, all else equal.
Complete every field
- Correct primary category, plus relevant secondary ones
- Full hours, including holidays
- Real photos added regularly
- Services and products listed with descriptions
What won't help
Fake reviews, a keyword-stuffed business name, or a fake address get you suspended, not ranked. Google is good at spotting these now. Play it straight and you build something that lasts.
Keep it active
The map pack rewards businesses that look alive: new reviews, new photos, answered questions. We run that upkeep so your spot holds and climbs. Want to see your current map position? Grab a free audit.
